About Me

Mary McCann - Director

Mary Alice McCann brings to the Sprague Orchestra program a wealth of experience having taught over 25 years at all levels from elementary to college. She holds a BM from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in cello performance and a MM from Boston University in music education. The bulk of Ms. McCann’s teaching has been in the public schools of Massachusetts with her most recent assignment as a string instructor for the Wellesley Public Schools.
Her resume of accomplishments is impressive. Each year while being the conductor of I Giovani Solisti the ensemble won the DownBeat award for best high school chamber ensemble in North America. This group was an audition-only group consisting of students from Hall and Conard High Schools in West Hartford, CT.  Ms.McCann also revived the orchestra program at Wellesley HS which resulted in the awarding of five consecutive gold medals at the Massachusetts Instrumental & Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) festival which contributed to her being named Orchestra Director of the Year in 2012 by the Massachusetts chapter of the American String Teachers Association.
As a cellist she has performed with the Florida West Coast Symphony, Portland (Maine) Symphony, and New England String Ensemble among others

I feel very fortunate to have Ms. McCann as a part of our outstanding orchestra staff. Please give her a warm Salem Keizer welcome.
